Panic Attack

Panic Attack is a sudden overwhelming feeling of acute and disabling anxiety which is mostly characterized by fear.

It usually reaches its peak within minutes and without warning. Panic attack can occur at anytime of the day and even during sleep.

It is an attack without warning. You’re involved in some ordinary aspect of life when suddenly your heart begins to pound and you hyperventilate, sweat, and tremble. You fear you are having a heart attack, going crazy, or even dying. Then, 10 minutes or so later, it’s gone. What just happened? You have had a panic attack, one of the worst experiences in life.

The heart pounds and breathing becomes hard, it almost feels like a heart attack but it is not. People that have had a panic attack will tell you they felt like they were dying and in many cases thought they were going crazy. Panic attacks need to be taken serious because they can lead to panic disorder and other severe problems like depression to the victims. On the bright side, panic attacks can be treated and the sooner one seeks for help, the better. The symptoms of panic attack can be reduced tremendously and even eliminated and in no time, the victim regains consciousness and life becomes normal again. Many people who experience a panic attack, mostly for the first time, recall having a fear that they were having a heart attack or a nervous breakdown or even an asthma attack. Although there may be difficulty in breathing accompanied with a racing heart, it’s a totally different illness. Some of the common psychological features associated with panic attacks include the fear of impending death and loss of sanity. According to National Institute of Mental Health, panic disorder affects 1 in every 20 adults. It usually begins between ages 15 and 25.
